Union Art Gallery Spring Calendar

During my time as the Marketing Coordinator for the Union Art Gallery I created our Spring 2020 Calendar. The aim of the calendar was to attract students, staff, alumni, and the public to attend the various shows. This direct mail piece was sent to our mailing list and displayed throughout the university. I didn’t have much experience in the design program with multi-fold pieces, therefore, I planned to do multiple mockups and drafts of the work before we sent it off to be printed. I was able to pick the image for the cover of the calendar from a few of Reginald Baylor’s new pieces. The flowers were a great pick for the Spring Calendar. The image allows for the Union Art Gallery logo to standout and would be a fun bright image. The colors of the pamphlet are all sampled from the floral image. I chose the individual colors to correspond with each of the different shows to break up the page and draw attention to the different events. I had discussed with the gallery manager about how many of the members of the public have commented that they are surprised that the gallery is not like a high-class museum where you must dress up to attend the events. Through highlighting the different works of art in this calendar and using a fun color palette, I was able to create a more open and inviting mailer to attract a new audience for the gallery. On top of the many design decisions, I also did research on UW-Milwaukee brand standards, mailing standards and regulations, as well as accessibility. With all this in mind I created the Spring 2020 Calendar for the Union Art Gallery.
